Senior Director of Systems and Innovation

Department: Systems and Innovation
Location: Grand Rapids, MI

The Senior Director of Systems and Innovation is responsible for guiding organizational growth and effectiveness across pivotal domains: Strategy, Information Technology, Process Quality Improvement, and Compliance. This role supports the organization’s mission to deliver transformative mental health services within residential, outpatient, and community-based settings. Through a strategic, value-based approach, the Senior Director of Systems and Innovation will ensure efficient operations and compliance across all domains of responsibility, enriching the organization’s capabilities through data capture and systems and processes, while at the same time working with program leaders to strengthen relationships with funders, especially within the Michigan Child Welfare System, through the development of processes and systems that drive value and innovation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve on Strategic Directions and Operations Teams.
  • Vision Casting and Value Proposition Development: Collaborate with the Strategic Directions team to develop a compelling vision and value propositions for the communities served, particularly within the Michigan Child Welfare System.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor departmental teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation. Identify professional development opportunities to strengthen team capabilities in IT, QI, and Compliance. Engage in talent acquisition collaboration and employee performance measures as appropriate.
  • Policy and Procedure: Lead and oversee the development of policies and procedures for all domains of responsibility.
  • Lead IT operations, including helpdesk, networks, electronic medical record, and IT systems/infrastructure development and improvement. Develop and implement technology strategies that enhance service delivery, operational efficiency, and ensure necessary security.
  • Drive technological enhancements aligned with Lean principles, ensuring scalability, user-friendliness, and data security.
  • Oversee the design, maintenance, and enhancement of IT infrastructure to support a secure and effective digital environment for clinical, administrative, and educational functions. Ensure that disaster recovery, business continuity, and back-up systems are designed, implemented, monitored, and tested as appropriate.
  • Drive IT solution selection and implementation in alignment with organizational business needs.
  • Leverage information systems and implement data analytics to measure and improve service quality, responsiveness, and client satisfaction, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and funder requirements. Lead team in systematically gathering and verifying data to ensure high data quality standards for completeness, reliability, and availability.
  • Ensure a framework of data interpretation that promotes significance, reliability, and social responsibility.
  • Lead efforts to innovate program service models, applying Lean, and evidence-based methodologies to optimize care delivery and enhance outcomes.
  • Ensure PQI initiatives and support Director of Value Driven Impact efforts in funder contract management.
  • Oversee the development of intelligent digital workflows that foster accurate, complete, consistent, and timely information flow and decision making across the organization.

Lead the design and implementation of the OKR framework, ensuring OKRs are challenging, measurable, and align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.

  • Security/HIPAA: Serve as Wedgwood’s Corporate Security Officer and HIPAA Security Officer, maintaining competence of the HIPAA Security Rule to inform related policies and procedures. Establish, maintain, and monitor compliant mechanisms for guaranteeing the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of electronic PHI.
    • Perform periodic HIPAA Security Risk Assessments that in compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule’s physical, technical, and administrative safeguards. Enforce policies and procedures that reduce threats and vulnerabilities to ePHI to a reasonable level in compliance with the HIPAA Security Rule.
    • Address concerns associated with business continuity, incident response, and disaster recovery.
    • Facilitate annual security assessment to ensure security framework throughout Wedgwood’s technology and communications systems.
  • Lead the organization’s compliance initiatives through effective supervision of Compliance Team and their leadership of the organizational Corporate Compliance Program and associated responsibilities.
  • Develop departmental budget; monitor and manage related expenses and priorities in collaboration with CEO.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. The employee must maintain a consistent work schedule and be available during the assigned hours to perform the duties of this role.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, Information Systems, or a related field; master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in IT, quality improvement, compliance, or a combination, with a strong preference for candidates with experience in healthcare or mental health settings.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Lean, CPHQ, ITIL, TIQI) are strongly preferred.
  • Strategic thinker/implementer with expertise in data-driven decision-making, project management, and team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements within mental health and child welfare settings.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in ---- software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Youth and Family Services and agreement with the goal, purpose, and objectives of the agency.

HOURS OF WORK: Monday- Friday, normal business hours (8:30-5) with variability, based business needs.
