Activity Therapy Coordinator (Full-Time)

Department: Program Admin- Residential
Location: Grand Rapids, MI

The Activity Therapy Coordinator oversees all Activity Treatment and provides oversight and coordination of all Activity Treatment staff within the residential programs. The Activity Therapy Coordinator also has direct responsibility for facilitating staff growth and knowledge of Recreation Therapy/Activity Treatment through coaching and observation of skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership and direction setting for Recreation Therapy/Activity Treatment programming within the agency.
  • Direct and develop campus wide activities and therapeutic intervention.
  • Communicate regularly with other agency staff:
    • With Clinicians and Directors of Residential to ensure integration of Activity Treatment in the overall milieu treatment.
    • With home employees to keep them informed of the role and responsibilities of Activity Treatment within the milieu.
  • Work collaboratively with various agency departments (OT, BCBA) to stimulate creative and therapeutic activities with residents.
  • Participate in and/or provides leadership to assigned agency committees as it relates to the Activity Treatment program area.
  • Attend various agency meetings to be aware of program planning and changes and represent activity therapy integration.
  • Activity Treatment Responsibilities:
    • Provide Activity Treatment staff training in specific areas of Activity Treatment focus at the agency.
    • Provide campus support through extended evening coverage (3-4 nights) per week and weekend as needed for programming.
    • Provide ongoing education and support to home teams to enhance the use of activity therapy.
    • Responsible for special agency-wide Activity Treatment events and supervises special projects; will provide at least one campus wide activity per month.
    • Oversee the management and use of the recreation equipment and facilities.
    • Responsible for the hiring, training, on-going supervision, discipline, and review of evaluations for the Activity Treatment staff in a co-supervision model with Home Supervisors.
    • Meet with the Activity Treatment Department monthly to provide leadership, education, coordinate activities and share ideas for programming.
    • Meet monthly with the Activity Treatment staff on an individual basis as well as with the Home Supervisor once a month to discuss program planning, assess their needs and give direction.
    • Develop and implement a department strategic plan
    • Encourage and design objective evaluation techniques to assess program efficiency and effectiveness including the use of the Ansell Casey Assessment Tool.
    • Develop a data driven tracking of Ansell Casey evaluation results
    • Responsible for tracking and monitoring utilization and outcome data, including quarterly reporting for the all-agency report card.
    • Oversees development of Activity Treatment Specialists in coordinating group therapy group opportunities for residential youth.
  • Seek out opportunities for professional growth and continuing education.
  • Utilize educational opportunities and resources offered by the agency and through the profession for continued development of skills and clinical expertise (conferences, in-services, clinician meetings, etc.).
  • Use the knowledge and skills of his/her supervisor to increase understanding of treatment programming and to further professional development.
  • Responsible for timely Quality Assurance compliance as related to employee’s roles and functions.
  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position. The employee must maintain a consistent work schedule and be available during the assigned hours to perform the duties of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreational Therapy or an equivalent degree from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in the field under professional supervision.
  • Prior group facilitating experience preferred.
  • Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Services and agreement with the goal, purpose and objectives of the agency.

HOURS OF WORK: Full-time 40 hrs/week
